Wine of Languedoc ~ A Taste of Southern France
Join us on Wednesday, September 3, for our September Wine On The Water that highlights four distinctive wines from the Languedoc region of Southern France. This area, long celebrated for its Mediterranean climate, limestone-rich soils, and winemaking traditions, produces wines that are expressive, approachable, and full of character. The wines in this lineup all share their roots in the South of France, yet each tells its own story through grape variety and style.
Domaine Font-Mars Picpoul de Pinet
From the coastal vineyards near the Étang de Thau lagoon, Domaine Font-Mars delivers a classic expression of Picpoul de Pinet. Crisp, refreshing, and zesty, this white wine offers citrus and green apple flavors with a saline edge. Its lively acidity makes it the perfect partner for seafood.
Food pairing: oysters, shrimp cocktail, or grilled fish with lemon.
Domaine d’Aupilhac “Lou Maset”
Domaine d’Aupilhac is a benchmark estate in Montpeyroux, known for crafting wines of depth and elegance. Lou Maset is their approachable red blend, featuring Grenache, Cinsault, Carignan, Syrah, and Mourvèdre. Bright red fruit mingles with notes of herbs and spice, reflecting the garrigue-covered hillsides of the Languedoc. Silky tannins and a fresh, lively palate make it an ideal wine for everyday enjoyment.
Food pairing: roast chicken, grilled vegetables, or a classic charcuterie board.
Domaine Ludovic Engelvin “Celas” 2020
Ludovic Engelvin, a dynamic young winemaker, brings a fresh, natural approach to Languedoc winemaking. His Celas 2020, crafted from Grenache and Syrah, balances ripe red and black fruit with a subtle earthy undertone. With minimal intervention in the cellar, Engelvin allows the vineyard’s voice to shine through, resulting in a wine that is vibrant, authentic, and full of energy.
Food pairing: lamb chops, wood-fired pizza, or Mediterranean tapas.
Les Traverses de Fontanès Cabernet Sauvignon
In the hands of Fontanès, a grape more famously associated with Bordeaux finds new expression in the Languedoc. This Cabernet Sauvignon is medium-to-full bodied with notes of dark cherry, cassis, and a hint of Mediterranean herbs. Softer and more approachable than many Cabernets, it offers a smooth texture and food-friendly versatility while still showcasing the varietal’s depth.
Food pairing: burgers, BBQ ribs, or hearty pasta with meat sauce.
All four wines are rooted in the sunny terroir of Southern France, where warm Mediterranean days ripen the grapes and cooling breezes preserve freshness. Together, they showcase the Languedoc’s diversity—from crisp, seaside whites to bold, expressive reds.
Come taste these four wines with us and experience the spirit of Southern France in every glass.
